Huldu-fólk, the hidden people, are elves in Icelandic and Faroese folklore. The Icelandic landscape is filled with rock formations that could potentially be their houses or churches. They look and behave just like us, but live in a parallel invisible world. In the folk stories, they are known to be vengeful if people mess with their habitats, therefore these places are respected by Icelanders, even by those who don’t firmly believe in their existence. Combining footage, animation and interviews with locals, this short ethnographic film explores the relationship between people, elves and nature while pondering on the concepts of belief and respect.
