Director
Bárbara is a visual artist, filmmaker and researcher. Her practice spans experimental cinema, non-fiction, video installation, performance and writing. She holds degrees in Fine Arts and Audiovisual Communication from the University of Barcelona, completed postgraduate studies at HISK, Belgium, and earned an MA in Artistic Research from Malmö Art Academy, Lund University, Sweden. Her work has been presented internationally at institutions and contexts including MACBA and Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona; Bienal Sur, Riyadh and Rosario; M HKA, Antwerp; HIAP, Helsinki; MoCA Taipei and Hong-Gah Museum, Taipei; CAC Quito, Quito; Palazzo Ca' Tron, Venice; Cineteca Matadero, Madrid; and Kasseler Dokfest, Kassel, among others. Her work is held in the collections of the Han Nefkens Foundation, MACBA, Fundación Naturgy, Fundació Palau and the National Collection of Contemporary Art. Through different formats and research-based processes, she develops projects that explore the relationships between image, territory, memory and ecologies. She regularly works with analogue film, exploring the materiality of film as a poetic and political medium. She is currently a PhD candidate at BAU–UVic, an artist-in-residence at La Escocesa, and teaches at different universities and institutions.
