Federico De Cárdenas

Director

Federico de Cárdenas was one of the founders of the magazine Hablemos de Cine (Let's Talk About Film) in early 1965 and was a major contributor throughout its twenty-year run. He later wrote for the magazine La Gran Ilusión (The Great Illusion). Meanwhile, after returning from Paris, where he had spent five years studying and watching films intensively, he continued writing reviews and conducting interviews for Hablemos de Cine, writing successively from 1975 onward for the newspapers La Prensa, El Observador, and La República. In these publications, he had a weekly critical column, longer than was typical in other newspapers, establishing a new way of presenting film criticism in a didactic and informed manner, while remaining engaging and stimulating. Furthermore, Federico was actively involved in various film clubs in the sixties (including the Catholic University Film Club) and seventies, directed a few short films and later became a collaborator of the Lima Film Library of the Museum of Art, and especially, from 2003 onwards, of the PUCP Film Library where he was part of the Board of Directors.
