Director
Juan Camborda Cruz was born in 1978 in Ayacucho. He studied biology at the National University of San Cristóbal de Huamanga and audiovisual communication at the Charles Chaplin Institute in Lima. Between 2002 and 2003, he edited documentaries for European cooperation agencies and for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. In 2005, he made his first short fiction film, No amanece tan pronto (Dawn Doesn't Break So Soon), followed by El vidente (The Seer) and El aprendiz (The Apprentice), among others. In 2008, he premiered his first feature film, Frágil (Fragile), which ran for three weeks at the Cavero Cinema in Ayacucho and was also broadcast on Ayacucho television. In 2010, he premiered his second feature, Secuelas del terror (Aftermath of Terror), at the Municipal Cinema Theater of Ayacucho, where it remained on screen for four weeks. In 2012, he successfully presented, at the same venue, Apuyaya, a documentary about Holy Week in Ayacucho, which was later screened at the Lima Independent Film Festival and was invited to the Mar del Plata and Havana film festivals. As president of the Association of Regional and Independent Filmmakers of Peru (ACRIP), he participated in the commission that drafted a film bill submitted to Congress by the Ministry of Culture, and later withdrawn by the same ministry.
