Karen Suzane is a Brazilian filmmaker, director, and screenwriter who has quickly become one of the most exciting new voices in contemporary Latin American cinema. A graduate in Cinema and Audiovisual Studies from the Federal Fluminense University (UFF), Suzane spent years honing her craft through powerful, socially conscious independent shorts and documentaries. She gained widespread recognition as the co-director and creative force behind the acclaimed GNT documentary series Negro Muro (2023). Suzane made a massive international breakthrough with her stunning narrative feature debut, Quatro Meninas (2025). The 1885-set historical drama made its world premiere at the 58th Brasília Film Festival—where it took home the Special Jury Prize—before earning international acclaim at the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) as part of the Generation 14plus lineup. Known for her visually striking storytelling and deep focus on historical and racial narratives, Suzane continues to establish herself as a powerhouse in modern Brazilian filmmaking.
